Salt Pond and Ram Head for the exposed east side
Start at Salt Pond, then reserve Ram Head for hikers prepared for an open, sunny ridge. This outing belongs with Coral Bay rather than another North Shore stop.

Reef Bay as the day's main commitment
Reef Bay is not an add-on after several beaches. Give the forest trail, historic remains, descent, heat, and return enough of the day, and use current NPS route guidance before setting out.
Cruz Bay without a rental vehicle
The passenger dock, waterfront, shops, restaurants, taxis, and many boat departures sit close together. A Cruz Bay day can combine a charter or taxi beach trip with dinner on foot.
Coral Bay by paddle, sail, or road
Coral Bay opens the quieter eastern harbor and the road toward Salt Pond and Ram Head. Pair one water outing or trail with a harbor meal instead of driving back and forth across St. John.
Snorkel where the entry suits the swimmer
Maho's shallow seagrass habitat, Trunk's marked underwater trail, and Cinnamon's broad beach are different swims. Use a sandy entry, never stand on coral, keep distance from turtles and other wildlife, and read current park guidance before entering the water.
Coral Bay and the east side
Coral Bay has a small harbor, independent restaurants, and the eastern road toward Salt Pond and Ram Head. The drive back to Cruz Bay is longer, narrow, and dark after sunset.
